I get the error message "Your Xbox can't recognize this disk" while a game disc, a CD or a DVD is loading
If you get this error message while your Xbox 360 console is reading a game disc, a CD or a DVD, it could be due to three possible reasons:
- Due to scratched or dirty disc
- Due to damaged disc
- Malfunction in the console.
To troubleshoot this issue, try the following:
- Switch off your console and switch it back on and try again.
- Clean the disc that you are having problem with and check for scratches and dust. Here's how you do it:
- Ensure that you don't touch the disc surface with your fingers.
- Wipe softly the disk surface with a soft, clean cloth in a center outward direction.
- Do not use any chemicals, cleaners etc., to clean the disk.
- If you find no problems but still have problems accessing it, return the disc to the retailer if it still under warranty.
- Try playing other games and try to play the original game with which you had a problem.
- Check the CD on another console.
- If the disc is faulty, get it replaced from the store.
- Call the Xbox customer service.
Important: Sometimes, it this problem might occur due to a corrupted saved game file. Your console might throw up an error while starting a game if the file is corrupted. You can take care of this issue by deleting all the saved games on your Xbox hard drive and copy it onto a Memory Unit (MU) if available.
The following shows you how to copy and delete saved games from your console's hard drive:
- Turn on your Xbox console
- Ensure that there is no disc placed in the disc tray.
- The Xbox Dashboard appears.
- On the Main Menu screen, press the directional pad (D-pad) up or down to choose the options available.
- Select Memory, press the A button.
- On the Memory screen, select Xbox Hard Disk, press the A button.
- On the Xbox Hard Disk screen, select the game title you want, press the (D-pad) left or right to select the saved game.
- On the Copy/Delete screen, select Copy, press the A button.
- On the Copy To screen, select the memory unit you want to copy the saved game to, press the A button.
- Press the B button to go back to the games list on the Xbox Hard Disk screen.
- On the Xbox Hard Disk screen, select the game title you just copied a saved game from, press the A button.
- On the Copy/Delete screen, select Delete, press the A button. On confirmation, press the (D-pad) left or right to select Yes.
Repeat the steps above to move all other saved games on the Xbox hard disk.
This should solve your problem!
